RIP Floppie Francis Dobson

Monday was the hardest day of my life. I barely got any sleep the night before because I was dreading the morning light. When I finally got out of bed a little before 7AM I felt like my heart was breaking, and I couldn't quite crying. I knew it wouldn't get better as they day went on, only worse.

On September 11, 2005 I finally talked my husband into getting us a second dog. I used the fact our other dog Dawne needed someone to keep her company and to play with. Dawne was only a year old at the time and had a lot of energy. After months of trying to talk Thomas into getting us another dog, we finally went to the humane society. Floppie was there looking just awful, but I fell in love with him.

Floppie's originally owners had twin girls and tied him up outside and let the fleas and ticks get to him. When the dog catcher took the dog to the humane society the fleas and ticks were so bad that they had to shave all his hair off. Even with the medication shampoo and lotion they put on his skin it looked so raw and painful.

He looked so pitifully in the locked cage. I have to admit that originally we didn't think he was the dog for us. We thought it would be better to get a younger dog so that Dawne could have someone to play with. But as we looked around at the dogs our attention kept being drawn back to Floppie. He just sat in his cage looking at us, he didn't bark or anything. Well as you can tell we adopted him and we have never once regretted that decision. Surprisingly he had a lot of energy for being an older dog.

Through the years we have had some great times. I hope you don't mind but I thought I would share a few of those memories and some pictures.

A few months after we got him, we were outside grilling steaks. There was one that needed more time for me since I like mine done different then Thomas. Anyways I set it on the little table that we  had so it could go back on the grill. Before we could put it on the grill, Floppie with his sneaky self took and ran under the table. He never did anything like that before and really didn't even beg, but he seen that steak and wanted it. We had to crawl under the table to get the steak from him. Too cute.

Another time after we went to dinner and Floppie was waiting int he car for us I took him a scrap piece of meat from my dinner. I fed him the meat and then we were driving home when he was messing around on the floor. We couldn't figure out what he was doing so we pulled over to find out that follow was chewing on my purse because the smell was still there and he thought there was more food in it. LOL.

About three years ago we had some friends over for some wings and beer night. Well my one friend was sitting on our couch eating his wings, when Floppie jumps up grabs a wing from his plate and before my wife and I could react he had ate the wing, bone and all.  Oddly, he never got sick from this, and they were my homemade very hot wings. Bet he was regretting that after the hot sauce touched his tongue.

About a week ago we went out to do some shopping and when we came home we found that Floppie knocked down the box of treat and his head was in the box eating them. He ate over half the box while we were gone. A box of treats has been sitting there for as long as we have lived here. I wish I would have gotten a picture of that. However Floppie did have a thing about being in the dog food bag once it was emptied into the container we keep there food in and I do have a picture of that.

On Sunday we took Floppie for one last car ride and McDonald's trip. He always loved being in the car, but I think he likes McDonald's better. We got him two plain hamburgers and cut them up into bite size pieces and put them in a Big Mac box. It was so cute Floppie tired to eat the box. I forgot my camera at home so all I had was my cell phone and for some reason I can't seem to upload them from my cell currently. I am hoping it is fixed soon, and once it is I will add them to Facebook.

Floppie has always been my baby. He loves to cuddle and sleep on the bed. Sadly this past month we haven't been able to cuddle as much or allow him to sleep in bed. I know we did the right thing but it was the hard decision I had to make. I will miss him, but I know he is in a better place and he isn't suffering. We got Floppie cremated and today we should be receiving his ashes. I got some pictures of him done and I am going to put them up with a shelf for his ashes. Once it is complete I will post a picture on Facebook. Speaking of pictures here are a few more of my favorites.

This is from the pooch plunge 2009. This past September we went also but I didn't take my camera. In September when we went poor Floppie was walking around the pool area and walked off the edge and fell in. Poor little guy. He isn't a strong swimmer because of his tumor so Skip had to jump in an get him.
Floppie doing what he did best, sleep. He loved to get his sleep. Unless I was getting up to go to another room he was resting.
Floppie and Dawne laying together on the couch.
Floppie and Max sleeping together.
All three of them sleeping together. Thank God we had two recliners because they took the whole couch for themselves.
Floppie laying on our old bed not wanting to get up. This picture makes me realize how much weight Floppie has lost. Poor guy.

We also took some pictures on Monday but I haven't had a chance to upload them yet. I plan on posting them on Facebook sometime in the next few days, no later then this weekend. So if you are a Facebook friend make sure you check it out.

In final thought, we love you and miss you so much Floppie. You will always have a special place in our hearts. You were a wonderful dog and we were blessed to have you as part of our family. I can't wait to be reunited with you on the other side.

I had to do the same thing 7 years ago with my Rottie Roxy (bone cancer). I know how you feel:( Floppie is a cutie. We now have a black cocker (6 years old) named April.
