Changing Tides by Sandra Sookoo

I have been working my way through the Strange Hollow series, but when I came crossed Changing Tides I wasn't sure how I would feel about this story. I have read other books by Sandra Sookoo and really enjoyed them so that wasn't the problem. The problem was I am not a huge fan of dragons. I am not really sure why but any dragon shifter books I have read just don't seem to come alive for me. They always seem to far-fetched. However Changing Tides was great.
Born of water.
Neadra is an Undine, a water sprite, yet the thought of being in any body of water besides her bathtub, terrifies her. In Strange Hollow, she lives on the side of the mountain, content and out of harm’s way, even as she yearns to be understood for her fears and loved in spite of them.
Drawn to water.
Caelan, a water dragon from the wilds of Ireland, has been shunned by his clan for his inability to shift and terrorize. Lonely for too long, he meets Neadra one moonlit night and becomes enchanted by her kindness and her unique beauty, but how could anyone love him if he has no heroic ability whatsoever?
Threatened by water.
When late spring rains, coupled with warm temperatures, melt much of the snow pack on Mt. Mitchell, a flood sweeps through the outskirts of Strange Hollow, putting Neadra’s life in danger. Caelan fights his way to get to her, pulling out the hero he never thought he could be, while she, in turn, works through her fears to find him. Only through acceptance of the world around them and of each other will they find the life they’ve always wanted.
Neadra came to Strange Hollow when her family gave her the ultimatum to either start swimming and behave like the Undine she was or to leave. She had a fear the water that she couldn't overcome no matter what she tried which only left the option of leaving. She was worried about leaving because she knew she would stick out like a sore thumb with her blue hair, fain blue-green tinge to her skin, and her slightly webbed fingers, but she had no choice. Thankfully she found Strange Hollow.

Caelen is a latent shifting dragon who has found his place in Strange Hollow after moving around a lot since leaving his clan. He offers to help Neadra overcome her fear of the water.

I love Changing Tides gave us a glimpse of some characters we heard about in previous stories. Changing Tides brings back Lilin from Love's Nest, and Trig, Moira and Simon from Simon's Fate. Since Lilin, Moira and Simon already have a story, I am hoping that Trig's story will be coming soon.

Changing Tides was a wonderful story, and I really enjoyed the romance between Caelen and Neadra. I loved watching  Neadra overcome her fear of the water with Caelen's help. I also enjoyed seeing the dragon side of Caelen that he had to live with even though he didn't shapeshift. Changing Tides open my eyes to a new type of paranormal romance. Maybe I will try reading a dragon shapeshifting story again.
