In this fantasy world, a fairy isn’t just a fairy, but the first stage in the life cycle of magical beings. Fairies are carefree creatures that frolic and play. And being able to fly is the most treasured of Fairy Fun, followed by sex, of course.
The woodland creatures have a complex life cycle. Fairies for the first twenty-two or so years, are carefree, lustful and fun-loving. But at the end of their fairy cycle they loose their ability to fly weather they have their wings ‘clipped’ or just pass a certain age. They must decide which creature to become. A wood gnome able to reproduce or, through elder magic, become a dryad, still able to fly but sterile (no offspring ever). The love of flying is very strong, but royal children seldom are given the chance the follow their choice.Dedrick Forester, Prince of Endole, is fast approaching the end of his fairy cycle, which means losing his ability to fly, transforming into a wood gnome, and having to choose a mate. Until then he just wants to have fun...and lots of sex.King Rosewood of Evermore is determined to see his daughter wed, but Chloe loves the freedom of fairy flight too much to settle down as a frumpy old wood gnome. She escapes and spreads her wings to reach new heights...like air sex with a stranger. Combine her passion with Dedrick’s and sparks light up the sky. Both discover pleasure beyond their wildest fantasies. But neither is prepared for the emotional connection. Now Dedrick must convince Chloe that losing her wings doesn't mean there aren't other ways to fly?
Dedrick Forester is the Prince of Endole and has less than a month left as a fairy. Of course, he still loves flying and no-strings attached sex. But this close to becoming a gnome and having to pick a life mate, all the other fairies are staying away from him, not wanting the prince to choose them and having their wings ‘clipped.’ When a sexy girl he doesn’t know offers ‘air sex’ (flying), he can’t pass up his possibly last chance to experience something new and fun. That they are great together has him wanting more and he follows her back to her ‘hide-out.’
Chloe happens to be the daughter of the neighboring King of Evermore. Her love of flying and her freedom sent her running when her father decided it was time for her to marry. She is hiding out in Endole to escape being trapped as a gnome with some unwanted mate. She offers Dedrick flying sex to experience everything she can while she can. When he follows her back to her ‘hide-out,’ she fears he is looking for a mate. But they are so great together that the lust overcomes her fears for the second encounter. But she is having nothing else!
She wakes up the next morning at home where her father has had a retrieval spell cast on/for her. He has had her wings clipped (against her will) and is going to have suitors brought before her, for her to choose from. Now she has no choice in becoming a gnome. But she is determined not to end up stuck with someone she doesn’t even know, much less like.
Dedrick was caught in the retrieval spell. Luckily, Chloe’s father happens to know and remember him from when he use to visit her brother as a child. Now Dedrick is allowed to court Chloe. But will he be able to convince her to marry him? Especially now that he has already gone through the transformation and become a gnome? Will she be able to be happy with him and as a gnome?
Fairy Fun is a super quick fantasy read (38 pages). Anita Philmar has put a fascinating twist on the fairy-gnome creatures. I have to admit I don’t think of little fairies as sexy, sexual creatures, but some of the drawing I have seen means a lot of men do (oh, I’m going to get into trouble for that one). And I have to say that Anita really thought out moving in air, or has done some sky diving in her time, because she even has air ‘up-drafts’ being a problem at one point. That added real touch was insightful and impressive.
Fairy Fun does seem to have a little role reversal going on. Dedrick is reminded of his father saying that love can come out of nowhere. And Dedrick does seem to be looking to fall in love with his mate, even if it’s more like love at first lust. Chloe is scared of being trapped, like most men are. She is both scared of being trapped literally physically and into marriage. Yet, like many men, she has no problem with no-strings sex.
Fairy Fun is a well thought out fantasy. The idea behind the woodland creature’s life-cycle is ingenious and the flying sex is well staged and carefully planned. And for how short this story is, we are still able to understand this world and the character’s resistance to their new changes. Well done, Anita.
