Erica DeLongpre’s new money father and high-class, old money mother still have high hopes for their eldest daughter. After her younger sister’s most recent embarrassment, a DUI, her parents have pressured her into an engagement with Arthur Wheatley, III, i.e. Trey. She has her own plans of becoming a doctor and working at a hospital for the less fortunate. So she has put the wedding off for two years, till after she finishes school and such, planning to break the engagement before then. No matter how much her parents approve of Trey, she doesn’t love him, can’t really stand him, and see no future with him. Breaking this to her parents will be another matter.

Erica loves horses and riding. Growing up in Middleburg, Virginia with the Hunts and competing, she is a skilled rider. But she convinces her father to send her to the Xérès School in Spain for a two week training course to study classical horsemanship. She also is looking to buy one of the special Iberian stallions they breed. She just never expected Damian, or her reaction to him.

Damián Xérès is the eldest son and heir to the Xérès ‘dynasty.’ As well as breeding and training Iberian horses, they make some of the best Sherry in the world. Damian runs the business, trains the top horses, and is also a horseback-riding bullfighter. He just wishes he was the younger twin so he could be a history professor at Oxford where he went to school. But this week is showing that there might be one advantage to being the horse trainer: Erica. He hasn’t felt this attracted to someone in a long time. Not since his last real girlfriend, Lucia, and she proved that the outside can hide an ugly inside. Erica is showing she is beautiful both inside as well as outside. That Erica’s father is a business partner, an importer to America of theirs, would have been helpful at any other time. Now it would cause both of them scandal to be caught having an affair.
They start a hot and sex-crazed affair. But Erica is set to go home soon. And she is still engaged, no matter how much they try it ignore that fact. When Lucia shows up claiming Damian is still her fiancé, though he never asked to marry her, things start to go sour. They both are still hot for each other, but where can this end up really? Erica is going to ‘drop’ Trey once home, but could she have a future with someone in Spain? What if Lucia follows through on her threat to tell on Erica before Erica gets home? Does Damian even want more than this fling? Does he even know what he wants?

Hot Spanish Nights Oh, the problems of the spoiled rich! He wishes he could be a history professor, but is stuck in the family business of sherry making and the horses he loves so much. He even laments (man version of whining) he brother getting to go off and gamble/play as he wishes. Way he can’t get his brother to ‘earn’ his part of the money he is obviously wasting? He may not get to be the history professor, but he gets to work with and own lots of VERY expensive horses that he loves. And the bullfighting he does is dangerous, something most would not let their heir do… As for Erica, she is spoiled. She even admits she has her father wrapped around her finger. Not only are her parents paying to send her to school to become a doctor (that’s expensive), but now they have sent her to Spain for this costly specialty training and to pick out one of these unique horses. But she won’t stand up about the fiancé she can’t stand (doesn’t hate, just doesn’t even like to be around). And I do have a tacky question: she talks about how “small” her fiancé is…if he was more endowed, would she like him more? Because if her parents picked him, there has to be something good about him. Gee, I think I have some personal issues here.

Now, the good stuff…Hot Spanish Nights really is HOT. There are some graphic scenes, so those sensitive about sex will not want to read this. I must admit I would never even in fantasy wanted to go at it on a horse, but both of these characters love the animals and love riding, so I guess it is something close to their hearts. I must say, Erica has some very good traits about her. She wants to be a doctor to help, and plans to work in an indigent hospital. She got engaged for her parents’ sake because of her sister and how her sister hurts them. Not a good reason, especially in regards to the fiancé, but at least she is doing it for other’s feelings. And she is planning to break the engagement before she ever meets Damian and gets all hot and bothered over him. So her ‘changing’ her mind isn’t because of another man, but her own feelings and issues. While she is rich and spoiled, she is also a caring and thoughtful person. Damian is a bit stoic. He seems to be falling for her early on, but lets the shadow of her fiancé hold his emotions back. He has no problem showing Erica the wilds of a Spanish man, but not the heart. Even his crazy ex-girlfriend showing up doesn’t break him out of his shell. But he does show he cares in actions: learning what she likes to eat, taking her on rides in the mountains, planning special days before she is scheduled to leave. This is a case where actions do speak louder than words.

Hot Spanish Nights takes the spicy, sexy story to the next level. Oh, and the cover is great. Talk about a play on the old ‘bodice rippers’ from the 80’s where the woman is half/mostly naked, this cover is our turn ladies. While there is some extreme/fantasy elements (sex on a horse may be possible, but who would really want to?), Hot Spanish Nights is a most definitely a Sizzling Read.
